8 Tips For Becoming the Perfect Second Shooter

8 Tips For Becoming the Perfect Second Shooter

by

Before I photographed a wedding on my own, I worked as a second shooter for a couple of different photographers, just to get a feel for what wedding photography entails. The second-shooter experiences really helped me learn the ropes, and now, I am completely comfortable being the primary photographer for weddings. My husband is also a photographer, so when I shoot a wedding, he is my second shooter, and when he photographs musicians (his specialty) I second shoot for him. If you have been hired for a second shooter job, here are a few tips to make things run smoothly, whether you are photographing a...

Finding the Perfect Location for your Portrait Session

Finding the Perfect Location for your Portrait Session

When I first took up photography, I would go anywhere I could to find a great location to shoot. Now, this also meant that I did a fair amount of trespassing, which I no longer do. Never. Ever. Under any circumstances. And, I don’t recommend it to you, either!  With this in mind, I also know a lot of photographers who still venture onto private property, which is their prerogative, but they tend to do it when they are photographing a paying client, which is extremely unsafe, mainly for legal reasons. On the other hand, can you imagine how embarrassing it would be...

KC Photography using Pretty Presets to edit

by

Pin It I truly love Pretty Presets. Laura has made them so incredibly easy to use and they have worked wonders on my work. I absolutely love how adding a Pretty Preset to a photo doesn't make the photo look fake or over-processed (which lot of other presets seem to do). I also love knowing that after I apply a Pretty Preset that I can alter the preset to "taste" without taking away from what the preset offers. Pretty Presets are simple and take an amazing photo to an added level!  I can't wait for the next set! - Casey Hartley...

3 Ways To Add Contrast To Your Photos

3 Ways To Add Contrast To Your Photos

by

One thing that most ALL my RAW photos always need SOOC is a boost in contrast. Today's post is just a quick list of 3 ways that I do that! Simple. 1. Contrast Slider Definitely the most basic and obvious way to adjust your contrast. Move the Contrast slider in the basic panel to the right until you like what you see. 2. Blacks Slider This is the most basic way that I adjust my contrast. Decreasing my blacks slider to -20ish is an easy way to add just a bit of contrast to your image. Some photos require more. Some...

Reducing Noise in High ISO Photos in Lightroom

Reducing Noise in High ISO Photos in Lightroom

by

I'm a bit of a wimp. The second it starts to get a bit cold or that white stuff starts to cover my grass, I hibernate indoors WAY more than normal. For someone who likes to take lots of photos, this means two things--high ISOs and more noise in my photos! Today, I want to introduce you to my good friend--Noise Reduction. It is found in the Detail panel in Lightroom just under the Sharpening sliders. Play the video or read on--whichever works best for you! There are two types of noise in photos. Probably you have noticed them both...
