3 Tips to Improving Your Workflow in Lightroom 5

As digital photographers, we spend a lot of time editing the beautiful photos we take.  But editing doesn’t need to take over your life.  Using a few quick tips you can speed up your workflow considerably and spend the rest of your time promoting your business or spending time with family!

1.Rate Your Images!

However you do it, rate your images.  This seemingly extra step will save you lots of time in the long run.  This step usually takes me maybe 15 minutes.  I don’t agonize over similar shots.  Go with your “gut” feeling.

You can rate your images using stars or flags.  To rate with stars in Lightroom, just press a number key 1-5.  I would recommend just choosing a star rating and giving all favorites the same star rating.  Do not spend time deciding whether each image is a 1 star or 5 star image!

You can also use flags to rate your images.  Type “P” for “Pick” to flag an image as a favorite.

2.Edit Once/Sync Lots!

Syncing settings is a way to take edits that you make to one photo and apply them to many at the same time.  This works especially well on photos that are taking in the same lighting using the same settings.

3.Presets, Presets, Presets!

I think this goes without saying, but presets can speed up your workflow immensely!  Anything you do repeatedly should be made into a personal preset.  Any of your favorite purchased presets should be organized into a folder of most-used presets or renamed so that they are together and easy to find!
