Photographer Spotlight: A Piece Of Lisa Photography

When did you decided to pursue photography? I was an avid scrapbooker four years ago. I have always been on the crafty side, and creating anything was always an exciting concept for me. So, my husband, being the smart guy that he is, decided it was time to buy me a camera for Christmas, so that these images I was scrapbooking would be a bit more exciting. I was so angry with him for spending that kind of money on a Christmas gift, and for giving me such a terrifying challenge ( anyone starting out with a new SLR and.. - Continue Reading

Exporting Images for Print, Web and Facebook

You have successfully imported images into Lightroom and edited them. Awesome! Now you need to get those precious little files OUT of Lightroom and off to the printer, or onto a thumb drive for your client, or uploaded to Facebook to show potential clients. This vital step is called EXPORTING. During the export all the edits and changes you made in the Develop module will be applied and the new version of your image is created (because Lightroom is non destructive and does not overwrite the original file). Let's go through the export screen a step at a time. Important! Take your.. - Continue Reading

Taking Images from Lightroom to Photoshop

Many photographers, both professional and hobbyists, have more than one editing programs. And, more often than not those two programs are Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. If you are new to one or both, you may not realize how beautifully the two programs were designed to work together. Today we want to show you how to set up an external (Adobe) editing program in Lightroom. Lightroom and Photoshop Usually Lightroom will *find* Photoshop and link up with it without you having to do it. However, there are a few changes you may want to make to the settings.. - Continue Reading

What Do Your Clients Expect and Are You Delivering?

What do your clients expect from you? Have you ever taken the time to sit and really think about what it may be? If not, how do you know you’re living up to their expectations, let alone meeting their needs? I’m not often in front of the camera. Whether personal or professional, I’m always the one clicking the shutter and I admit that until recently, I had not focused a lot of time on the question of client expectations. We’ve all heard that managing client expectations in regard to scheduling, session payment, product ordering, etc is vital in providing a smooth.. - Continue Reading

Editing in Lightroom Presets with Pretty Presets - Clarissa Hunnewell

Clarissa wrote me recently and shared some edits she had made with the Make It Matte Collection!  I asked if she'd be okay with us sharing them with our page.  Thanks for letting us share, Clarissa.    "I have either used the Pretty Pastels Collection or the Make It Matte Collection. But, overall the Make It Matte is definitely my favorite. Every time I go to edit a photo the very first thing I do it put a preset over it and then adjust everything else from there. Pretty Presets is by far my favorite preset company. I don't edit.. - Continue Reading

From Import to Export: Keeping Tabs on Your Files

When it comes to organizing your files on your computer and in Lightroom, there is no set standard, and everyone has their own way of doing things that works for them, and their way of organizing is usually a combination of a) what they’ve been taught and b) what they’ve learned on their own. The most important thing when it comes to organizing your files is that you understand your system and can locate your images without spending hours searching, and that your files are safe: ie, your computer isn’t about to explode from being full of unused images, and.. - Continue Reading

How and Where to Backup Your Lightroom Catalog

Today I am talking about one of the most important things you should be doing in Lightroom: backing up the Lightroom catalog to an off site location. In a previous post I explained what the catalog was - the compilation of all the images you have imported into Lightroom. Not only is the catalog file (.lrcat) your virtual picture library, but it is also all the organizational systems you have created such as keywords and collections, and it is all the edit steps you have taken for each and every picture you've ever edited in Lightroom (and is still in the.. - Continue Reading

One Setting in Lightroom That Can Make a Big Difference

There is one little setting that is so very often overlooked in Lightroom and it's a setting that can make editing quicker and easier - Lens Correction. Some camera lenses will do weird things to an image, like wide angles can make people or building lean into towards the center of an image. Or, it can stretch subjects wider who are on near the edge of the frame. Some lenses, like my Nikon 60mm f2.8 macro, will put a vignette on the image. Vignettes are an effect many photographers add to an image to help make the subject more of.. - Continue Reading

Does Pinterest Help or Hinder Photographers?

I love Pinterest. It has replaced nighttime reading. I know, so sad. When I’m ready for bed, I fluff up all 6 pillows (one should be propped up properly for pinning fun), get under the covers and grab the Ipad. I go to one app and one app only. Pinterest. It is the only app I indulge in at night. I use the word indulge because by this time, all 4 teens are in bed, my husband is downstairs doing his own thing, the dogs are asleep on the floor next to me and I am completely alone with my.. - Continue Reading
